My Journey So Far

Having spent early years in Panipat, I moved to New Delhi at the age of 13. I went to St. Theresa’s Convent in Karnal, better known for its most famous alumna Kalpana Chawla, before studying at Delhi’s DAV Hansraj and DPS Mathura Road schools.

I graduated with Political Science (Hons) from the Hindu College in 1990, the same year when Delhi University campus was in the grip of anti-reservation agitation and Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

I actively participated in the campus protests against the implementation of Mandal Commission report seeking reservation for OBCs. When the Ram Temple movement gained ground, fiery speeches by SadhviRithambara as well as Uma Bharti inspired me to join karsewaks in Ayodhya. However, the journey was halted by police and me along with my friends were detained and sent back from Agra.

Activism took a break as career occupied the front seat after I graduated in 1993. After that, I worked for a year before I pursued MBA from Fore School of Management. The foray into business was epiphanic. Inspired by my gym partner who was even the MD of Gillette in 1996 where I was a summer trainee. Inspired by him, I was drawn towards building an empire, and it was then when I launched my enterprise instead of continuing with the job.

This led to the creation of SunheriSvendgaard, an enterprise which catered only to the manufacturing of FMCG products. Today, it is largest in its space in India.

This was followed by floating an IPO, which was successfully concluded with the public issue and the company getting listed on both the stock exchanges.

All through the journey, I kept deriving my energy from my faith. While I was strengthening my business, what never took a back seat was my urge to preserve Hinduism in the country which is my utmost priority in life.

An incident during my stay in Dubai in the early years of professional life made me even more determined to work for this cause. While crossing a road with my mother, I chided a reckless Pakistani cab driver who nearly crashed into her. The driver asked me to shut-up reminding that the Hindus have no business to speak in that country. The incident changed the course of my life: I returned home, set up my business – SunheriSvendgaard and worked hard on making it the largest player in the space that it is operating in.

At Shimla's Jakhoo Temple where my family and I have been visiting as devotees since 1984, I was blessed or rather the chosen one by Hanuman Ji to build the world’s tallest statue at 108 feet and the highest altitude of over 8100 feet. The statue is inspired by the Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is considered amongst the seven online wonders of the world, measuring 98 feet and built on an altitude of 2296 feet.

I married my classmate from college who is a career bureaucrat.
